Del Monte Kenya plants 8,200 trees in Global Sustainability Drive

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 13 – Del Monte Kenya Limited has planted over 8,200 trees in its latest environmental conservation effort, contributing to parent company Fresh Del Monte’s global target of planting 2.5 million trees by 2025.

The tree-planting event, held on the company’s farms and in surrounding communities, was part of Del Monte Kenya’s commitment to sustainable practices outlined in its five-year strategic plan dubbed A Brighter World Tomorrow®.

“Del Monte is committed to ensuring environmental sustainability not just in Kenya but around the world,” said Wayne Cook, Managing Director, Del Monte Kenya Limited.

This year’s initiative was conducted in collaboration with several local partners, including the Kenya Defence Forces, Waternet, Chania Cleaners, the Water Resources Users Association (Njururi Group), and Cascade Company.

The reforestation initiative seeks to restore ecosystems and enhance quality of life by planting trees within and beyond Del Monte Kenya’s operations. The broader program involves identifying suitable planting sites, selecting appropriate indigenous tree species, and raising community awareness around tree care and maintenance.

Beyond afforestation, Del Monte Kenya is also promoting a circular economy. In 2024, the company launched a biofertilizer plant at its Thika operations, turning pineapple residues into sustainable agricultural inputs.

Fresh Del Monte’s global environmental strategy aligns with efforts to build resilient communities, improve soil health, and combat climate change, reinforcing its vision of creating A Brighter World Tomorrow®.
