NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 11 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of forgery involving a senior medical social worker employed by the Wajir County Government.
The case revolves around the alleged falsification of a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Mount Kenya University (MKU).
The investigation was initiated following a report suggesting that the suspect, who held a senior position at the Wajir County Public Service Board, had used fraudulent documents to secure employment.
The EACC’s, in a gazette notice dated August 9, asserted that it had conducted investigations that revealed that the suspect was never a student of the university.
“Investigation established that the suspect was never a bona fide student at MKU and that the degree certificate and academic transcripts never used to secure the employment at Wajir County Government were not genuine,” read the gazette notice in part.
EACC disclosed that the suspect fraudulently earned Sh6.8 million in salary over the course of his employment, which spans 8 years from June 2016 to January 2023.
Earlier, EACC had forwarded the previous report to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), recommending that the suspect face charges on multiple counts, including fraudulent acquisition of public property, forgery, and uttering a false document.
However, on July 24, 2024, the DPP returned the file to the EACC, recommending further investigations into the case before any charges are pursued, prompting the fresh investigations.
