Over 85,000 nurses, clinical officers to benefit from Britam’s Indemnity cover

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 24 – Over 85,000 registered nurses and clinical officers will enjoy indemnity insurance in the new expansion by Britam General Insurance.

While professional indemnity insurance is not mandatory for them, it is for doctors in Kenya.

Eligible healthcare professionals for this enhanced cover include the over 60,000 registered nurses and 25,000 clinical officers who are active members of their respective national regulatory bodies or associations in Kenya.

The most common claims under professional indemnity include allegations of negligence or malpractice, defamation, breach of confidentiality, cost of disciplinary hearings, and loss of documents.

Britam’s Professional Indemnity cover provides comprehensive financial protection in the event of a claim or lawsuit alleging negligence or malpractice. This includes covering legal defense costs, such as attorney fees, court expenses, and potential settlements or damages awarded to the claimant.

“Nurses and clinical officers play a pivotal role in patient care. Their actions and decisions significantly impact patient well-being,” said Jackson Theuri, Britam General Insurance CEO and Principal Officer.

“Our professional indemnity cover is designed to protect these healthcare professionals, ensuring they can perform their duties with peace of mind, without the constant fear of legal repercussions.”

In addition to financial protection, Britam’s Professional Indemnity Insurance for nurses and clinical officers offers access to risk management resources and support.

This includes guidance on best practices, safety protocols, and risk mitigation strategies, helping healthcare professionals enhance their practice, reduce errors, and promote patient safety.

Britam’s professional indemnity insurance starts at Sh5,813 annually and includes a built-in Last Expense benefit, with an optional Domestic Home Package add-on.

Britam has established itself in this market, already serving doctors with its existing professional indemnity insurance.
