AfriKonekta, Google Maps to offer intercity, cross-border bus transit information

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 2 – AfriKonekta has entered into a deal with Google Maps to integrate intercity and cross-border bus transit information.

The deal will enable travelers to plan trips, compare fares and bus schedules, book, and pay online seamlessly.

Through this, AfriKonekta aims to integrate precise intercity and cross-border transit information into Google Maps.

“This initiative aims to make route planning effortless for travelers,” said Mr. Tichaona Dande, AfriKonekta CEO and Co-Founder.

Under the deal, AfriKonekta will leverage Google Maps’ digital reach to reach a large audience, particularly budget-conscious African long-distance travelers.

AfriKonekta operates services in Kenya and Zambia, with connectivity to 14 neighboring countries or border towns in Africa.

“Traveling in Africa is often unorganized, difficult to plan, chaotic, and unreliable, especially when planning more complex trips that may involve multiple routes or countries,” Dande said.

“We are confident that the practical use of this technology will facilitate better trip planning, resulting in greater convenience for travelers across Africa.”

Incorporated in Finland, AfriKonekta is an African long-distance mobility platform offering a tech-enabled bus travel experience.

Since its official launch on August 16, 2023, it has partnered with over 45 bus operators, servicing more than 400 destinations across Africa.

The company also has a prospective expansion strategy targeting over 22 countries.

“Our commitment is to build a connected Africa through broader and deeper regional and continental integration,” Dande reiterated.
