NAIROBI, Kenya, April 23 – Members of the Metropolitan National Sacco will next month hold a second demonstration amid an array of unresolved grievances, including non-remittance of monthly repayments of huge loans to members and the irregular recovery of the same awarded to staff.
The sacco members, in a letter, notified the police of the peaceful procession scheduled for May 26.
”The said procession is scheduled to take place from Muthaiga stage to DCI Headquarters Kiambu Road from 9.00 Α.Μ. We also intend to present a petition to the Head of Investigations at the same premises. This Application is fully enshrined in the Constitution of Kenya Articles 37,” read the letter by Affiliates Lobby Group Organizing Secretary Kariuki Wanjiku.
Last week, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) halted the remittances of 11,310 teachers under the Sacco.
As of March 31, 2024, TSC noted in the letter that 2,401 tutors are still active members of the Sacco.
“The above captioned matter and the deliberations from the meeting between the Senate Standing Committee on Trade, Industrialization and Tourism and the Teachers Service Commission held on 26th March 2024 refer,” TSC Chief Executive Nancy Macharia said in a letter sent to the Clerk of the Senate.
