Tanda obtains eMoney Issuer License from CBK

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Tanda has obtained an eMoney Issuer License from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), enabling the launch of TandaPay, a mobile wallet platform.

The firm, which becomes the sixth to be issued approval, says that this will enable it promote financial inclusion in Kenya as well as the rest of East Africa.

Geoffrey Mulei, co-founder and CEO of TandaPay, emphasized that obtaining the eMoney Issuer License is not merely a regulatory milestone but a pivotal advancement towards their goal of enhancing economic opportunities in Kenya through mobile wallets.

“With TandaPay, we’re breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and building a truly inclusive financial ecosystem for all Kenyans,” he said.

Apart from individual users, Tanda aims to construct a comprehensive ecosystem through collaborations with merchants, SACCOs, fintechs, and others.

The fintech aims to reach 500,000 wallets in the initial year and empower over 10 million customers in the long term.
