MOMBASA, Kenya, Mar 1 – The Kenya Ports Authority has announced the arrival of the longest-ever container ship, MV Kotka, in the Port of Mombasa.
The Liberian-registered ship sailed from Durban as her last port of call and is scheduled to sail to Abu Dhabi from Mombasa.
Following its arrival, the ship’s master, Captain Gutsol Kostyantyn, got to receive a certificate of first call from GM Cargo Operations Sudi Mwasinago and GM Corporate Services Edward Kamau.
The vessel has an overall length of 318 meters, 43 meters in breadth, a draft of 9.3 meters, a gross tonnage of 81488 tons, and the capacity to load 5,877 containers.
“The Port of Mombasa records another milestone after receiving the longest-ever container ship MV Kotka,” KPA stated on its X account.
“The Liberian registered vessel has a Length Overall of 318 meters, 43 meters in breadth, and a draft of 9.3 meters. The container carrier has a gross tonnage of 81488 tons, and she is set to load 5,877 containers,” it added.
According to Mwasinago, the arrival of the vessel is a significant step that showcases the rapid metamorphosis and efficiency of the port of Mombasa.
“Dr Mwasinago said that the docking of MV Kotka is a testament to the continuous growth, increased capacity, and operational efficiency of the Port of Mombasa,” KPA stated.
