NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 11 – APA Insurance was over the weekend named the leading general insurance company of the year by the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI).
Likewise, Joseph Kariuki from the insurer was recognized as the agent of the year, while Justina Mbona, who is also from APA, was recognized as the medical insurance agent of the year.
“The 22nd AKI Awards concluded with renewed commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in the insurance Industry, setting a high standard for future endeavours,” AKI stated in a statement.
AKI considered the performance of the insurance companies during the competition period from January 1 to December 31, 2023.
Jayshree Haria from the Jubilee Insuarance was feted as the agent of the year in the persistency category for the third year running.
Ruth Mumbe from Britam Insuarance was recognized as the agent of the year in the New Business Category for the second year running.
Acknowledging the fundamental role insuarance sales agents play in insurance companies, AKI chairman Nixon Shigoli stressed the need for them to provide legitimate and clear information about the insurance companies as they interact with their customers.
“Insuarance sales agents therefore have a big responsibility in providing clear and correct information about the insurance products, coverage,pricing,and terms. This ensures that the customers knows what they are signing up for,” he stated.
AKI has further noted that 1,056 agents met the qualifying competition criteria this year, which is higher than the 783 recorded the previous year.
“Among them, 727 agents represented life insurance while 329 agents represented general insurance,” they stated.
