NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 12 – Private security firm SGA has recycled guard uniforms into school bags for schoolchildren from vulnerable families.
The company says that the bags will be donated to needy students living in informal settlements in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
“At SGA Security we are keen to ensure that the environment around us flourishes and is taken care of, as well as to give back to society,” SGA CEO Jules Delahaije said.
“The old guards’ uniforms, if not recycled, will end up in landfills and might cause harmful effects to the environment,” Delahaije added.
“Recycling these uniforms to school bags ensures that health and safety are promoted as well as livelihoods of the underprivileged communities improve.”
The company, which has over 19,000 employees across the region, previously donated the first set of bags to needy children in Nairobi’s Mathare slums under the banner ‘Ubuntu: Humanity and Environment’.
