Algeria records 10.42 bln USD trade surplus in Jan.-Nov.

ALGIERS, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) — Algeria recorded a trade surplus of about 10.42 billion U.S. dollars in the first 11 months of 2023, Algeria’s Minister of Trade and Export Promotion Tayeb Zitouni said on Tuesday.

The value of exports between January and November 2023 amounted to 54.75 billion dollars against 44.32 billion dollars in imports, Zitouni said at a hearing before a committee of the People’s National Assembly, Algeria’s Lower House of Parliament.

Algeria’s trade surplus is a result of the country’s policy of organizing and rationalizing imports, which has made it possible to replace imported goods with domestic products, promote exports, and eliminate overpricing, the minister said.

Non-hydrocarbon exports had reached 5.07 billion dollars in Jan.-Nov. 2023, according to Zitouni.
