Rwanda sees rising revenue in conferences, events sector

KIGALI, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — Rwanda’s sector of meetings, incentives, conferences, and events (MICE) achieved remarkable growth in 2023, generating more than 91 million U.S. dollars in revenue, up from 64 million U.S. dollars the previous year.

“Rwanda hosted more than 150 conferences last year which generated more than 91 million U.S. dollars for the national economy. This gives us confidence that the sector will continue to generate jobs for Rwandans while projecting a good image of the country,” Frank Murangwa, an official in charge of publicity at the Rwanda Convention Bureau, the body promoting MICE, told Rwanda television Friday.

He said the country’s infrastructure development including investment in conference facilities played a big role in propelling MICE-based tourism, enabling the country to host big international conferences.

The MICE sector is part of Rwanda’s efforts to diversify its tourism revenues by promoting other tourist offerings.
