NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 7 – Safaricom users will now be able to acquire two new Neon smartphones through its Lipa Mdogo Mdogo program, which allows users to pay as they use on a daily or weekly basis
The new additions include Neon Smarta and Neon Ultra, an advanced version of the phone.
The inclusion of the two brands, the telco said, will allow more locals to access the internet affordably.
“We are keen to enable more Kenyans enjoy the transformative power of the internet by availing affordable 4G devices through Lipa Mdogo Mdogo, which has already empowered over 1 million Kenyans to upgrade from 2G featurephones,” its CEO Peter Ndegwa said.
“We also continue to invest in our network to provide our customers with the best connectivity across the country,” Ndegwa added.
Unveiled in 2020, the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo solution was introduced to increase 4G uptake in the country.
Since then, Safaricom has partnered with manufacturers such as Transsion, Samsung, and Nokia to include more smartphones in the pay-as-you-use solution.
The smartphones come with Google Apps, including search, maps, Gmail, and YouTube.
