Philippines resumes fresh mango export to Australia

MANILA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — The Philippines has resumed exporting fresh mangoes to Australia with an initial shipment of 1,500 kilograms of Carabao mangoes this week after an interruption of 10 years, the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture said Friday.

The department said the Philippines sent the first shipment on Wednesday, a day before the two-day state visit by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, the first Australian head-of-state to visit the Philippines since 2003.

The mango shipment to Sydney and Perth marked the first fresh export from the Philippines to Australia in 10 years.

Agriculture department’s Assistant Director for Research, Development and Production Support Services Herminigilda Gabertan said the Philippines last exported mangoes to Australia in 2013.

“So this is a big step towards our mango industry development,” she said.
