In other parts of the country such as Kisumu and Eldoret, shops also remained closed Monday as tensions ran high among residents awaiting the results.

Most offices also sent their staff home by noon to allow them to follow the results from their homes.

The electoral commission is set to announce the presidential election winner at 3 pm Monday.

All indications showed Deputy President William Ruto who was running on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket is the winner, followed by Raila Odinga of the Azimio La Umoja coalition based on a tally so far released by the commission and other independent institutions like the media.
