NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 24 – Tala has announced the appointment of Ivan Mbowa to lead its Kenya business effective 1st June 2019.

Mbowa brings to the table over 14 years of experience delivering business results and building high performing teams across Africa. He has built a career around expanding access to finance in Africa, with roles in international banking and venture capital-backed Fintech entrepreneurship.

Previously he was the Chief Executive Officer at Umati Capital as well as holding senior management roles at Citigroup across eight different markets in Africa. In joining Tala, Ivan will be responsible for the strategic direction, growth, and overall operational oversight of the business.

Speaking when welcoming Ivan to the team and thanking the outgoing Regional Manager Rose Muturi for her service, Tala’s Human Resource Business Partner Rebecca Maruti said “Ivan is an eminent leader and a well-versed banker with an illustrious a career spent spearheading key banking functions.” Mbowa will succeed Muturi as the primary country representative for Tala’s business in Kenya.

“On behalf of the Tala management, I am extremely pleased to welcome Ivan Mbowa to our team. Ivan brings comprehensive experience as a career banker, professionalism and outstanding entrepreneurial leadership of which I am certain that this will provide significant confidence and conviction to all stakeholders including employees, customers, and our investors,” Maruti said.

On his part, Tala Vice President of Country Growth Anay Shah acknowledged the outstanding the contribution that Muturi made, and thanked her for leadership over the last three years.

“Muturi is an exceptional leader. Her drive and focus have materially strengthened Tala. We thank her for the dedication, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation she has given the company over the past three years. She will be greatly missed by the staff and the wider Tala community alike,” Shah said.

Muturi has been instrumental in the formation of the recently launched Digital Lenders Association of Kenya (DLAK) where she served as the founding Chairperson.

The management has congratulated Ivan on his appointment and thanks all the stakeholders for the continued support expressing confidence that he will make valuable contributions and catapult Tala to the next level.
