Ecobank appoints Cheick Travaly as Kenya MD & Regional Executive – CESA

Cheick Travaly joined Ecobank in 2001 as the Corporate Bank Head at Ecobank Senegal.

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 24- Ecobank Group has appointed Cheick Travaly as the Managing Director of Ecobank Kenya and Regional Executive for Central, East, and Southern Africa Region pending regulatory approval.

Cheick replaces Samuel Adjei who retired on April 29, 2019, after 29 years of outstanding service to the Ecobank Group.

Prior to his new appointment, Cheick was the Chief Operating Officer for Ecobank’s Central East and Southern African region that comprises 18 affiliates. His professional experience spans 28 years, the last 14 of which have been spent as a Banking Executive serving six different countries.

He began his career in the mining sector in Guinea, before making a permanent move into the banking industry. He joined Ecobank in 2001 as the Corporate Bank Head at Ecobank Senegal. Before that, he was a Local Corporate Manager for Citibank Senegal.

He also served as the Managing Director for Ecobank Burkina Faso from March 2012 to December 2018 and Managing Director, Ecobank Benin from January 2006 till February 2012.

He holds Masters’ degrees in Business Administration and in Economics from the University of South Carolina and the University of Dakar in Senegal respectively.

Group Chief Executive Officer Ecobank Group Ade Ayeyemi said Cheick’s appointment as the new Managing Director will continue boosting the organization’s operations across the region.

Cheick is a leader with a proven track record of execution, great leadership skills and a deep understanding of customer dynamics, our products, and markets, ” he said.
