KISUMU, Kenya, Feb 19 – The National Government has committed Sh.300 million for the development of a modern waterfront facility in Kisumu.
Cabinet Secretary for tourism Najib Balala said the government will help the county government of Kisumu develop Lake Victoria waterfront as a way of boosting tourism and investment in Western Kenya Circuit.
Balala said a team of planners had been dispatched to Kisumu to work closely with the county government to come up with an attractive view of the lake.
The waterfront will cut across the port, the yacht club and the golf club.
“As much as people go to the beach in Mombasa, Kenyans can come to Kisumu for a different experience of the lake, and the tourist attractions of the Kit Mikayi, the Dunga Beach and the Impala sanctuary,” said Balala.
He added that the waterfront must be ready by 2021 when Kisumu will be hosting Afri Cities.
