NAIROBI, Kenya, January 23- Gor Mahia are likely to have no Samba groove for the upcoming season after their Brazilian import, Giovanni Rodriguez was shown the door after failing to impress Croat coach, Zradvko Logarusic.
According to Logarusic, Rodriguez is out of the tour to Nyanza where K’Ogalo will take on Sony Sugar and Muhoroni Youth over the weekend but the club’s hierarchy maintains he is surplus to requirements.
“I can confirm I will not be taking Rodriguez to Nyanza since only players who are conditioned and ready for the matches will play,” the Croat said Wednesday.
A couple of weeks ago, the Green Army turned out to welcome the player at City Stadium but having played no football for two months, the 25-year-old forward turned up for training looking overweight and well short of match fitness.
“I don’t care what the fans say but players for me must talk on the field that is the only place they should talk, it does not matter whether they come from Brazil, Scotland or Zambia.
“Today, he talked outside the field but we brought him to talk in the field and the judge is Zradvko Logarusic and Logarusic is a tough judge,” the Croat tactician asserted at the time.
Logarusic stated that he had to compete with other stars in the side including new signing Paul Mungai Kiongera and forwards Rama Salim and last season’s top scorer, Dan Sserunkuma for a place in the side.
A fortnight later, the Brazilian who was said to be on a Sh150,000-a-month pay has yet to impress leading to his exit.
Rodriguez who plied his trade by his own admission at AC Milan, Bergatomo, Rio Blanco and Piao FC in the Brazilian first division and most recently, Sheikh Jamal in Bangladesh has been told he can leave for home.
Gor are preparing for the DSTv Cup against Tusker FC and the preliminary rounds of the CAF Confederation Cup early next month.
