KISII, Kenya, Mar 20 – Kisii Governor has named public service board chair Elijah Obebo to be his deputy after Robert Monda was impeached last week.
Following this, Obebo’s name was read by County assembly speaker Philip Nyanumba in Wednesday’s afternoon session.
In his communication, Nyanumba told Members of County Assembly (MCAs) that the governor had proposed Obebo’s name for vetting and subsequent approval.
“I am pleased to have received communication from Governor regarding the nomination, for approval,” he said.
Nyanumba further committed the name to the committee on appointments and vetting.
The committee is to report back to the County Assembly within 14 days.
“When the vacant of a deputy governor arises as provided under section of 32 C, the governor shall in within 14 days appoint a Deputy Governor. The County assembly shall consider the motion for approaval of a Deputy Governor within 14 and resolves whether to approve the motion or deemed to had resolved to pass the motion upon the lapse of the 14 days,” he said.
Majority leader Henry Moracha however stated that they will not vet him since they had already did three months ago for the position of county public service board chairman.
The nomination of Obebo comes a day after former County Deputy Governor Robert Monda filed an appeal before Kisii Law Courts challenging his impeachment.
Monda was accused of gross violation of the Constitution and law, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and offences under national law.
The Senate found him guilty of all the charges and ejected him from office.
