, NAIROBI, Kenya, May 20 – Nairobi City County Governor Mike Sonko has ordered for installation of Biometric System in all county offices in the capital to improve efficiency and service delivery.
Sonko said he wants all county government workers to account for their time at work in order to measure their productivity and at the same time monitor efficiency at City Hall.
All county staff will have to undergo the biometric registration so that their details are fed into the new system. This will also help weed out ghost workers and imposters.
Speaking on Monday when he made an impromptu tour in all City Hall offices, Sonko warned lazy and inefficient county workers that their days are numbered once the new system is installed to monitor the productivity and efficiency of county workers.
“I want the system installed immediately to ensure we monitor the efficiency and productivity of our staff in all Nairobi City County offices. I have instructed our County Secretary and Human Resource Department to make sure we have the system as soon as possible because we want to know who comes to work and never reports to work as required,” stated Sonko.
Nairobi Deputy County Secretary and Chief Officer in charge of Public Service Management, Leboo Morintant said all is set for the roll out of the biometric system in all Nairobi County Government offices.
“We had already planned for the launch of the Biometric System this week and we are now set for the roll out with Governor Sonko’s full support. The system will also help us to tame imposters and ghost workers at City Hall,” said Morintant.
City Hall’s Director of Human Resource, Lilian Maina, promised that the new system will improve efficiency in the County Government.
“We are very hopeful that the new system will help us to monitor the efficiency of our county workers at City Hall and all other Ward offices,” She said.
Nairobi County will be the first County Government to implement the Biometric System out of all the 47 counties.
Nairobi County Government has nearly 13,000 workers across Nairobi in all the 85 Wards.
