NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 6 – Deputy President William Ruto has congratulated Wiper’s Julius Mawathe and MDG’s David Ochieng for clinching the Embakasi South and Ugenya parliamentary seats in the just conclude by-elections.

Through his twitter account, the Deputy President stated that the victories are a true reflection of the choices made by Kenyans.

“Congratulations Ochieng (Ugenya) & Mawathe (Embakasi) for your God-given victory. Jameni wacheni MUNGU aitwe MUNGU. The hustler nation has spoken, the people have decided. GLORY TO THE ALMIGHTY GOD,” the DP stated, in a thinly veiled jibe at the ODM brigade which lost both mini polls.

Mawathe retained his seat after garnering 21,600 votes against Irshard Sumra of ODM who managed 7,900 votes.

The by-election was necessitated after the Supreme Court nullified Mawathe’s victory in the 2017 general election in which he beat Sumra by a difference of 165 votes.

Meanwhile, David Ochieng emerged victorious in Ugenya mini poll thrashing immediate former area MP Christopher Karani, who had the support of ODM’s top brass.

Ochieng garnered 18,730 votes to Karani’s 14,567.
