, NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 15 – Citizen TV journalist Jacque Maribe will on Monday be charged alongside her fiancé, Joseph Irungu alias Jowie, in the murder of Monica Kimani.
This is after a mental assessment conducted on Maribe last week showed that she is fit to stand trial. Jowie already underwent similar evaluation.
Maribe will take the plea alongside Jowie who is the main suspect in the murder.
She was detained at the Lang’ata Women’s Prison while Jowie was remanded at the Industrial Area Prison following their initial court appearance.
The two appeared in court last week on Tuesday following approval by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji who was satisfied with the evidence gathered by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to prosecute the couple.
They are accused of murdering Monica at her apartment in Kilimani, in what is linked to money she was carrying on arrival from Juba, South Sudan.
Jowie’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta had complained that he did not medical treatment for a bullet wound sustained during an attempted suicide, despite orders issued by a Kiambu court when he was first arraigned. The court ordered that he should receive treatment.
