ODM Appeals Tribunal nullifies nomination of party chair Mbadi

Mbadi insists he won the nomination/FILE

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 29 – The ODM Appeals Tribunal has nullified the nomination of party Chairman John Mbadi over Caroli Omondi in Suba South.

The tribunal composed of Willis Otieno, Mohamed Hajir, Florence Omose, George Muthama and Charles Bosire nullified the nomination after finding that in seven polling stations, there was more than a hundred per cent voter turnout.

The stations are God Oloo, Mikuyu, Miriya, Koga, Nyakiya, Oma and Kiembe where Mbadi’s votes were more than the number of voters registered in the respective centres.

The Tribunal’s recommendation is now before the party’s National Elections Board for action.

ODM Director of Communications Phil Etale says any directions given by NEB in remedy have to take into account that the deadline for party nominations expires on Sunday when it will be holding its primaries in Nairobi and a repeat nominations exercise for the MP’s position in Karachuonyo.

“On Migori, Homabay, Siaya and Kisumu Counties, the Board is scrutinising the results as submitted by Returning Officers and the reports from the three member committee and will make a communication as soon as the process is over,” ODM’s NEB Chair Judith Pareno stated on Friday.
