MPs want Matemu, Keino dismissed from EACC

The House team further observes that the wrangles within the team had compromised investigations against graft leaving the MPs to conclude that the duo had failed to provide the leadership thereby putting their competence to doubt.

“There is further evidence on record that confidential documents of the Commission were leaked out which points to systematic weaknesses attributed to their failure to manage the Commission,” the House team observes.

The committee also observes that sending the Matemu and Keino home will not affect on-going investigations of graft cases highlighted in the confidential dossier prepared by the EACC CEO and handed President Kenyatta.

The committee noted that the 60 days given by President Kenyatta during his State of the Nation address to conclude investigations is not a legal timeline and can be extended.

“The committee observes that there is an inter-agency team comprising EACC, DPP and other players currently investigating where H.E. the President gave a timeline of 60 days. The committee is persuaded that this agency can finalise investigations and take appropriate steps towards prosecution of suspects in the absence of two EACC commissioners,” the report remarks.
