NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 12 – Deputy President William Ruto was on Sunday set to visit Migori County, a month after the heckling incident at a rally attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Deputy President was set to arrive in Migori town by 9am and attend mass at St Joseph Catholic Church Ombo before a funds drive for the church.
Security has been beefed up in the area owing to last month’s disruption of President Kenyatta’s function.
Migori County Commissioner Anne Ng’etich on Saturday said her officers would not take any chances following the disruption of the president’s function.
Ng’etich said security officers were ready to ensure the DP was accorded the respect he deserves.
On September 8, Migori Governor Okoth Obado was shouted down by area residents at a function attended by President Kenyatta.
He was heckled and shoes thrown towards the presidential dais forcing President Kenyatta to intervene.
President Kenyatta later said he would make sure that he tours all parts of the country despite the political affiliation, race or tribe in the areas as stipulated in the Constitution.
