Kibaki effects military promotions

, NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 10 – President Mwai Kibaki has appointed Major General S.N Karanja to be the deputy commander at the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

In the appointment made upon recommendations of the Defence Council, the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces said the appointment will be subject to approval by the AU Commission on April 12.

The President has also made other promotions in the Kenya Army, namely:-

1. Brig. J. K. Rono – Promoted to Maj. General and Appointed General Officer Commanding, Eastern Command

2. Brig. L. Tumbo – Promoted to Maj. General and appointed Managing Director, Kenya Ordinance Factory

3. Col. C. Otiato – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Audit

4. Col A. K. Angogo – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Operations

5. Col. J. L. Mrashui – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Personnel

6. Col. R. G. Kabage – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Director, International Peace Support Training College

7. Col. B. Biwott – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Deputy Commandant, Defence Staff College

8. Col. W. K. Koipaton – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Commandant 6th Brigade

9. Col I. H. Sora – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Chief of Logistics

From the Kenya Airforce, the following senior officers were promoted:-

10. Col I. A. Kanchoro – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Senior Directing Staff (Air)

11. Col. F. O. Ogolla – Promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander, Laikipia Air Base

From the Navy:-

12. Lt. Col G. W. Mbithi – Promoted to Colonel and appointed Instructor

13. Lt. Col D. N. Kamuri – Promoted to Colonel and appointed Col. Research and Development

The undermentioned general officers will proceed on leave pending retirement upon attaining their mandatory retirement age with effect from the date indicated below:

14. Maj. Gen. G. N. Kyaka – 13th October, 2012

15. Maj. Gen. A. M. Rob – 24th December, 2012
