Pre-MAMA's Gitters

The late reggae icon Lucky Dube will be honored at this years’ MTV MAMA Awards this Saturday (10.11.09) that is slated to be the biggest event Kenya has ever seen, at the Kasarani Sports Centre. This was announced at a press briefing on Wednesday at the Norfolk hotel

Dube was shot and killed in a carjacking incident in Johannesburg in 2007 at the age of 43.

Meanwhile it has been confirmed that Citizen TV will be the only broadcasting network that will be televising the event live, though MTV Base will transmit parts of the live broadcast. They will then do a whole recap of the event the following Saturday (17.10.09) to the rest of the world.

Even as Africa’s music elite continue to pour into the county, the media was assured that security will be on the top notch.

“Having spent a lot of millions of dollars for this event, security is our first priority,” Mr Alex Nkosi from MTV pledged.

The organisers of the event were strict on time; saying gates close at 7pm so that the event kicks of at 7:15pm.

It was as announced that Akon, the main act of the event, will be jetting in to the country on Friday, when he will proceed to attend one of the pre-parties slated for Friday night.

Alison Reid, Director of Communications at MTV Network Africa, was quick to downplay several MAMA ‘parties’ as hoaxes.

So that you know, Thika Road is under construction, so if you want to be there on time better start driving to the venue early. And if you can’t make it, just tune your television sets on Citizen TV.
