KRA set to buy 30 body cameras in war against corruption

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 15 – The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) seeks to purchase bodycams to monitor employees engaging in bribery cases.

In a statement published on local dailies, the taxman says it will purchase 30 cameras.

In June 2022, KRA said that its domestic tax department employees as well as those working in customs and border control will start to wear cameras on fight against corruption.

A number of its employees have been blamed for allowing cargo owners to evade paying taxes at border points.

“The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has received financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HOAGDP) and intends to apply part of the proceeds toward payment under the contract for Supply and Delivery of Assorted Enforcement and Communication Equipment,” KRA said in a tender notice.

Other items that the taxman will be buying include a ruggedized laptop (5), satelitte phones (10), and a portable hand-held scanner (2).

“The Kenya Revenue Authority now invites sealed Bids from eligible Bidders for Supply and Delivery of Asson Enforcement and Communication Equipment….,” it added.
