NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 28 – Safaricom says M-Pesa is processing about Sh100 billion daily in transactions, underscoring the scale of Kenya’s digital payments ecosystem.
Chief Executive Peter Ndegwa said the platform handles roughly 500 million transactions each day.
Speaking at the Connected Africa Summit 2026, Ndegwa noted that the system can process up to 10,000 transactions per second.
He added that M-Pesa now operates in seven markets, highlighting its growing regional footprint and role in advancing financial inclusion.
Ndegwa also called for stronger collaboration with governments to reduce friction and accelerate digital transformation in public services.
The remarks come as Safaricom continues to scale its digital infrastructure to support rising transaction volumes while deepening access to financial services.
