Earthbanc donates 3mn seedlings to support Jaza Miti Drive

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 11 – Kenya Forest Service has received more than three million tree seedlings from Earthbanc to support the government’s Jaza Miti tree planting campaign.

The donation supports Kenya’s target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032 and restoring degraded landscapes as the country seeks to increase national tree cover to 30 percent. The seedlings, which include indigenous and climate-resilient species, have been distributed in counties including Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Kericho, Baringo, Kiambu and Makueni.

Chief Conservator of Forests Alex Lemarkoko said the partnership demonstrates the importance of private sector support in helping Kenya achieve its climate and environmental restoration goals under the national tree growing programme.

Earthbanc said it has produced about six million seedlings in Kenya since starting operations in 2024 through its local subsidiary Earthtree Company Limited, with more than half donated to KFS. The company has also trained farmers in agroforestry and sustainable land management and supported communities with beehives to improve pollination and generate additional income.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with KFS, county governments, local communities and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry as Kenya continues efforts to restore forests and strengthen climate resilience through public-private partnerships.
