NAKURU, Kenya, Feb 13 – SNV Netherlands Development Organisation has launched the second phase of the Biashara Pawa initiative in Nakuru County under the IYBA-SEED programme, aimed at increasing women’s participation in traditionally male-dominated sectors.
The programme, funded by the European Union alongside the French, German and Slovak governments, seeks to strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems by supporting women- and youth-led businesses. It is part of the broader Team Europe initiative and is implemented in partnership with agencies including Expertise France, Enabel, GIZ, SAIDC and SNV.
“Biashara Pawa is committed to creating meaningful change by working directly with grassroots organizations and key stakeholders,” said George Wayne, CEO of Nakuru Box. “Our focus is on promoting women’s participation through sector-based dialogue events, identifying role models, strategic storytelling, and amplifying community-rooted narratives.”
The event drew over 200 women and youth to discuss opportunities in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, agriculture, technology and the blue economy. “Empowerment begins with changing mindsets,” said Nduta Ndirangu of SNV Kenya. “We are here to inspire women and youth to see themselves as capable of succeeding in sectors traditionally viewed as for men.”
