NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 22 – Kenya Airways (KQ] has suspended two flights between Nairobi and New York following severe winter weather conditions in the United States that disrupted operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
In a customer update issued on February 22, the airline said a blizzard warning and heavy snowfall in New York had forced airport authorities to suspend flight operations for specific periods, significantly affecting scheduled departures and arrivals.
As a result, flight KQ 002 from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to New York, scheduled for February 22, was cancelled. The return flight, KQ 003 from New York to Nairobi scheduled for February 23, was also called off.
The carrier said the decision was taken in the interest of passenger and crew safety, noting that adverse weather conditions had made it unsafe to operate the long-haul service.
KQ operates direct flights between Nairobi and New York, a key intercontinental route linking East Africa to the United States for business, tourism and cargo.
The airline indicated that it plans to resume operations with KQ 002 on February 24 and KQ 003 on February 25, subject to improved weather conditions and clearance from airport authorities.
It added that teams are closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant stakeholders in the United States to minimise disruptions.
KQ apologised to affected passengers for the inconvenience and advised customers to check flight status updates through its website, mobile app, or customer support channels.
