Brussels Airlines introduces African-inspired meals on long-haul flights

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 1 – Brussels Airlines will start offering African-inspired meals on long-haul flights from sub-Saharan Africa to Brussels beginning January 2026.

The move reflects the carrier’s strategy to differentiate its long-haul product and enhance the onboard experience.

The menu will rotate regularly and feature dishes such as Cape Malay braised chicken with cashew nuts, mango, and coriander for Business Class, and Cod Mbongo, a traditional Cameroonian dish, in Economy Class. These offerings will complement the airline’s existing inflight menu.

“At Brussels Airlines, we aim to offer a product that we call ‘a boutique hotel in the air.’ That means a tailor-made product that makes everyone feel at home,” said Philip Mortier, Inflight Product Manager, Brussels Airlines.

“Offering meals inspired by the rich cuisine of the African continent reinforces that promise even further. Whether passengers want a final taste of home, to hold on to the feeling of their vacation a little longer, or to discover new flavors, we are confident these African-inspired meals will be appreciated.”

The airline, part of the Lufthansa Group, serves 18 destinations in sub-Saharan Africa and has been investing heavily in passenger experience.

Recent upgrades include revamped tableware and service procedures, while Business Class passengers on flights departing Brussels enjoy meals prepared by Belgian Star Chef Glenn Verhasselt.

A new lounge is also scheduled to open in Summer 2026.
