Smart Applications International recognised as Superbrand in healthcare technology

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 17 – Biometric and healthcare technology firm Smart Applications International Limited (Smart) has been recognised as a Superbrand, cementing its position among Africa’s most trusted and innovative companies.

Founded in 2003, the firm provides healthcare access and administration solutions across 12 African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Somaliland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Cameroon, Zambia, Malawi, and Mauritius. Its network now spans more than 9,000 healthcare facilities, serving over 1.6 million users.

“It is truly an honour to receive such a prestigious industry mark while serving millions across Africa. This recognition not only affirms the value of our work but also strengthens our resolve to continue innovating and shaping the future of healthcare delivery on the continent,” Harrison Muiru, Smart Group Managing Director, said.

Smart first gained recognition through MediSmart, a biometric-controlled card system designed to curb fraud and improve access to healthcare. The solution has since evolved into the Smart Access App, a fully digital platform that has been downloaded more than 500,000 times across the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The company’s portfolio also includes SmartHealth+, a hospital management information system, and Smart Analytics, a data analysis and business intelligence platform used to improve healthcare performance and decision-making.

Smart is certified under ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management), ISO/IEC 27001:2013 (Information Security Management), and ISO 22301:2019 (Business Continuity Management), underscoring its commitment to delivering secure and resilient systems.

“Our clients have reported between 25% and 40% savings on their medical scheme expenditure within the first year of using the Smart System, alongside remarkably seamless access to healthcare services. This demonstrates not only the tangible value we deliver but also our unwavering commitment to transforming the healthcare industry. It is this dedication that has earned us the prestigious Superbrand recognition,” Smart Group Marketing Director Esther Muiruri added.
