NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 26 – The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) has licensed 152 coffee dealers across Kenya so far in the 2025/26 financial year, covering buyers, warehouse operators, and agents.
According to AFA, 126 coffee buyers, 15 coffee warehousemen, and 11 coffee agents have received licenses after undergoing a vetting process as required under the Crops Act, 2013, and the Crops (Coffee) (General) Regulations, 2019.
“No single company or group of companies has been or will be given exclusive rights to export coffee,” AFA Director General Bruno Linyiru said.
The authority said only exporters whose names have been published in the Kenya Gazette are recognized as legitimate.
The gazettement process allows 14 days for public objections before a license is issued.
Linyiru warned that entities exporting coffee without proper licensing and gazettement are breaking the law and could face legal action.
The licensing rules are intended to ensure transparency in the coffee trade, prevent monopolies, and regulate the sector effectively.
AFA said stakeholders should rely on official communications through the Kenya Gazette, its website, or press statements for verified information.
