NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 21 – KenGen is set to increase the capacity of the Gogo Hydropower Plant from 2 megawatts (MW) to 8.6MW, significantly enhancing power reliability in Western Kenya.
The €38.8 million project, slated to begin mid-2025, will produce 32GWh annually, supporting sustainable energy goals.
This was said yesterday during the issuance of 45 title deeds to the Gogo community.
KenGen Chairman Alfred Masadia and CEO Peter Njenga highlighted the initiative’s transformative impact on energy and livelihoods, with Migori Governor Ochilo Ayako praising its potential to spur regional growth.
“This is more than a legal transaction. It is a significant step toward economic empowerment and long-term security for these families,” Njenga said.
“The Gogo redevelopment project will stabilize the Western region’s grid, deliver clean energy, and support improved infrastructure and livelihoods.”
