NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 4 – Tourism stakeholders are urging the government to lower taxes in the sector, especially as the festive season approaches, to boost tourist numbers.
At a Tamarind Tree Hotel event, General Manager John Musau advocated for reduced levies on services like game drives, which he said would make Kenya more competitive compared to neighboring Tanzania and South Africa.
Musau also emphasized the need for increased marketing funds for the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) to further promote Kenya as a prime destination.
Kenya’s tourism sector saw significant growth in 2023, with 2 million arrivals, and the country aims to welcome 3 million tourists by the end of 2024, targeting 5 million visitors within the next few years.
