124,000 affordable housing units built so far: Govt Spokesperson

NAIROBI, Kenya,Oct 17 – The government has so far constructed 124,000 affordable housing units, according to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura.

Mwaura emphasized that the housing program will soon expand to all 290 constituencies across Kenya, with the aim of providing decent housing for citizens.

He noted that 50,000 of the completed units were developed in partnership with private investors, underscoring the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing the housing shortage.

The Government Spokesperson further highlighted that the initiative has created job opportunities for many young Kenyans, with over 213 individuals receiving certificates from the National Environment Training Institute, recognizing their skills and contributions to the project.

“This program not only provides housing but also dignifies our youth and stimulates the economy,” Mwaura stated, encouraging Kenyans to appreciate the contributions reflected in their pay slips.

Earlier, Mwaura disclosed that 64,211 units under the Affordable Housing Program had been booked by September 5, with 539,623 Kenyans saving over Sh2.2 billion.
