NAIROBI, Kenya, May 24 – Traders of musical instruments have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) to curb the sale of counterfeit goods and the unethical professional conduct facing the industry.
In their Memoranda, the Musical Instruments traders committed to collaborate with the Authority by not dealing, purchasing, selling, distributing, or handling warehouse counterfeit goods.
“We hereby resolve and commit that we will not deal, purchase, sell, distribute or handle warehouse counterfeit goods. Any traders found in possession of counterfeit goods will not be allowed to be sell to the consumers,” the two agreed.
They agreed to report any anti-counterfeit officers from the authority engaging in unethical professional conduct and help the authority conduct lawful inspections and execute search warrants without any hindrance.
The traders will also cooperate during the joint verification exercise with the Anti-Counterfeit Authority and Credible Sound Limited to determine whether the goods seized from the shops and premises are counterfeit goods.
“In good faith, we shall disclose and provide intelligence information to the Anti- Counterfeit Authority (ACA) on sources of counterfeit musical instruments and other electronics within their knowledge.”
Further, they committed to providing the necessary support to the ACA to conduct product awareness, education, and sensitization among the traders in the industry within the next 3 months.
