MojaEV targets cab drivers with first EV launch

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 31 – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker MojaEV has unveiled its first electric vehicles (EVs) in Kenya as it targets cab drivers.

The Neta variant EVs, which comprise SUVs and mid-level consumer cars, will be fully launched in mid-June.

MojaEv says the move is in line with the government’s agenda of ensuring a sustainable transport system while minimizing pollution.

Its marketing executive, Annet Githinji, asserted that the move will have far-reaching effects on ensuring taxi drivers maximize profits while using affordable fuel options.

“From the uptake you realize that drivers are so keen on shifting to EV’s as it will bring more income to them owing to its cost effective nature,” she said.

She disclosed that the company is also mulling onboarding two-wheelers for boda boda riders in the country as it seeks to net more customers.

On full charge, the Chinese car drives 300 kilometers and has the option of home-changing, a factor that MojaEV seeks to bank on as its main selling point.

The EV maker seeks to partner with Equity and NCBA Bank in a bid to help taxi drivers finance their car purchases.

Kenya has recently witnessed an uptake of EVs, an aspect that MojaEV says it is keen on taking advantage of.

This comes on the back of major government agencies such as the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) rolling out tenders for the supply of EVs.
