NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 11 – Budget airline Safarilink has partnered with Surf Air Mobility to fully electrify its Cessna caravan fleet.
Safarilink says the full electrification of planes will be a gradual process and will be completed by 2027.
Going clean is part of the airline’s ambition to sustainability and wildlife conservation.
“The implementation of Surf Air Mobility’s electric powertrain technology aims to reduce noise and minimize the climate impact of our flights, ensuring a sustainable and immersive experience of our region’s incredible ecosystem,” read a communiqué by its CEO, Alex Avedi.
He emphasized the need to preserve the natural beauty of the regions in which it operates, adding that the partnership positions Kenya at the forefront of a global movement towards sustainable aviation.
He exuded confidence in Kenya’s role as the ideal pioneer for alternative propulsion in air travel, adding that the country currently boasts 91 percent carbon-free power generation.
