Foreigners seeking Zimbabwean citizenship to pay 5,000 USD for registration

HARARE, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) — The Zimbabwean government has gazetted registration fees for foreigners seeking Zimbabwean citizenship on the basis of permanent residence, setting them at 5,000 U.S. dollars for both adults and children.

The fees, which will be paid strictly in U.S. dollars, were gazetted on Tuesday by Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe.

Those seeking to restore Zimbabwean citizenship after renouncing it earlier will pay 1,000 U.S. dollars, according to the supplement of the Zimbabwean Government Gazette Extraordinary.

People seeking a certificate of renunciation of Zimbabwean citizenship will pay 200 dollars, while those seeking restoration of citizenship by descent will pay 50 dollars, the new rules stipulate. Those also seeking restoration of citizenship other than by descent will pay 1,000 dollars, while a certificate of confirmation of citizenship will cost 50 dollars.

Descendants of the Southern African Development Community will also pay 50 dollars for the restoration of citizenship.

The fees are part of a set covering various services offered by the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage.

All the other fees, except for the issuance of a temporary travel document which has been set at 40 dollars, are also payable in local currency at the prevailing interbank rate, the gazette said.
