Energy Ministry directed to lower electricity prices after cabinet meeting

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 28 – Cabinet has directed the Energy Ministry to boost maximum power production as well as passing lower tariffs benefit to users signaling low power bills soon. In an address to the media statehouse spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has revealed that the resolutions are anchored on ensuring the skyrocketing cost of electricity are scaled down. “Cabinet also directed the Ministry of Energy and petroleum in consultation with all agencies within the sector to give priority to maximum production, uptake and distribution of hydro generated power. It further directed the ministry of Energy to pass the benefit of lower electricity tariffs to the public in a manner that promotes the increased use of hydro generated power,” said Mohamed in the address. Currently the cost of purchasing the electricity units have gone up with Kenyans having to dig deeper into their pockets for the commodity. Kenya Power had in a statement in October attributed the high cost of electricity to the high cost of fuel it uses to run its turbines in the proves of generating the coveted commodity.
