NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 29 – Firms and individuals will access deaf interpretation services through the MPesa App following a deal with Safaricom and Sign Media.
Under the assistALL mini DPP platform, which provides sign language interpretation services, the telco said that the pact seeks to bridge the communication gap between the hearing population and people with hearing impairments.
“At Safaricom, we believe in the power of technology to break down barriers and drive inclusion and accessibility,” said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
“In a world that is increasingly reliant on digital services, this partnership is a milestone in our mission to make technology more accessible for everyone and contribute to a more inclusive society,” Ndegwa added.
Safaricom indicates that the inclusion of the app on its platform will create job opportunities for interpreters, including corporates, professionals, and individuals.
“We launched the assistALL app in 2022 with a vision of helping the deaf community participate in social-economic development in Kenya and beyond, and we are pleased to avail it to more Kenyans by partnering with Safaricom to have it on the M-PESA App,” said Signs Media Kenya Managing Director Luke Muleka.
