NAIROBI, Kenya, June 7 – NCBA Bank yesterday opened a new branch in Chwele, Bungoma County, as the lender seeks to reach more customers beyond urban areas.
Area Governor Kenneth Lusaka, flanked by NCBA’s top leadership, including Group Executive Director and CFO David Abwoga, opened the new facility.
“Bungoma boasts a population of close to 2 million people with a density of about 600 people per square kilometer. Previously, most of them would have to travel to Bungoma or use other mobile financial platforms to satisfy their business needs,” Lusaka said.
“Not anymore. Today, I would like to encourage all residents of Chwele to take advantage of the financial services that are now accessible through the opening of this NCBA branch in order to build the economy of our county.”
The outlet is the second to be opened in the devolved unit, making it the 10th county to have more than one NCBA branch.
The initial banking facility, which was started in February this year, has hired eight staff, with more than 270 customers accessing services.
“As the third-largest bank in Kenya and one of the fastest-growing banks in Africa, we have a pivotal role in growing the economy,” Abwoga said.
Some of the financial products and solutions that will be offered by the bank include savings and current accounts, loans, investment solutions for wholesalers, and asset finance solutions for retailers.
Its mobile and Internet banking services will also enable customers to access their accounts wherever they are.
