NAIROBI, Kenya July 20 – President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new stimulus measures to cushion Kenyans against the high cost of living, effectively lowering the cost of maize flour.
Effective Wednesday, the Head of State said a 2-kilogram packet of Unga will retail at Sh100 down from an average of Sh205 following talks with millers at State House, Nairobi.
Uhuru appealed to the millers not to hoard maize flour saying this will affect Kenyans in a negative way.
Speaking during a press conference at State House, President Uhuru urged them to instead consider the plight of Kenyans who were burdened by the high cost of unga.
He observed that there is a pattern of high maize flour costs in the lead-up to the elections, citing 2013, and 2017 elections periods.
The President called on millers to exercise corresponding social responsibility for the Kenyan people, ethical business practices.
