Stanchart to create conservation app under plan to restore Arboretum

NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 11 – Standard Chartered Bank Kenya has committed to creating a digital app used to sensitize Kenyans on conservancy under a three-year partnership with Kenya Forest Services to support the restoration and conservation of the Nairobi Arboretum Park.

The digital app, which will be created in partnership with Strathmore University, will be used as an educational tool to create awareness on the conservancy, climate change and for promoting the park and to support park initiatives

Through the deal done in collaboration with Nairobi Arboretum Conservancy Community Forest Association (NACCFA), the bank has also vowed to restore not less than nine-kilometer of paths for running or walking and overall experience of enjoying the park.

“Through this partnership, the Bank has committed to promoting urban green awareness and urban greenification by supporting 1 million seedlings in the Arboretum Nursery. The seedlings will be available to staff, clients, and the community at large,” the bank said in a statement.

Speaking during the announcement, Standard Chartered CEO, Kariuki Ngari said the bank is committed to accelerating to net zero through partnerships, creating awareness for staff, communities and engaging like-minded stakeholders in the fight to mitigate the impact of climate change

“We believe the park will be transformed and plan to host our community, staff, and client events in the park,” added Mr. Ngari.

Chairperson Nairobi Arboretum Conservancy Community Forest Association  Carlotta Dal Lago reiterated the park’s goal to restore and preserve urban green spaces for the future generation and in the process, help reverse the effects of climate change.
