Boeing launches food and water project for farmers in Murang’a

NAIROBI, Kenya, October 13 –  American multinational corporation, Boeing has launched food security and water project in Murang’a which is aimed at bolstering food security for farmers in the area.

The Maragua ridge food security and water project, which is done in partnership with  Bethel investment networks will ensure that the community has a reliable source of water that will, in turn, give farmers food security through their kitchen garden and food forest initiative.

“Boeing has partnered with Bethel Network; to officially launch the Maragua Ridge Food security and Water project in Murang’a county. This undertaking is in a quest to ensure that the community has a reliable source of water,” read a joint statement from the firms.

Speaking during the launch of the project, Mary Ndung’u, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bethel Investment Network said that under the partnership, 1,000 mapped households would allocate at least a quarter-acre piece of a farm where over 20 species of diversified food crops and different varieties of fruit and non-fruit trees planted.

“It is important to note that the nature of the activities of this project is not one time. Over 180 households have already started adopting the technology at their individual household level,” she added.

Farmers in the area would also undergo training on-farm management practices.

“This project hopes to improve lives of the Maragua people with this initiative and to yield result towards a better future,”  the statement read in part.
