United Kingdom High Commissioner Nic Hailey with Deputy President William Ruto
NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – United Kingdom High Commissioner Nic Hailey has said the impending withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union would not affect trade relations with Kenya.
Speaking on Tuesday in Karen during a meeting with Deputy President William Ruto, Hailey said Kenya remains a strong and strategic trading and investment partner to the United Kingdom.
He said exports and imports to and from the two nations won’t be affected by the Brexit decision.
“We have close to 300,000 Kenyans living and working in the UK and we are keen to maintain the traditional relationship we have had,” he noted.
Dr Ruto said despite being a source of anxiety, Brexit would also come with opportunities.
The Deputy President said the traditional trading relationship between Kenya and the UK “is mutually beneficial” and would continue to thrive.
Trade between Kenya and Britain is about Sh140 billion with the UK also one of the largest investors in Kenya,
