NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 – Airtel Kenya has appointed Charles Wanjohi to the position of Marketing Director, with the lead responsibility for the achievement of the design and effective implementation of the company’s consumer marketing goals and strategy.

He previously held the position of Group General Manager- Revenue and Marketing at Airtel Africa.

Wanjohi joined Airtel (then called Celtel) in 2006 from Kodak South Africa where he was the business analyst for the sub-Sahara region.

He has also held various roles in Airtel group including business analysis and pricing for the commercial department, setting up the Kenyan operation business planning team as well as group roles in Zain Africa offices.

Charles has an MBA from Strathmore University and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Nairobi, majoring in Finance. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) K.

Speaking when he confirmed the appointment, Airtel Kenya Managing Director Shivan Bhargava said the senior level appointment had been effected as part of the firm’s growth strategies.

“As part of our ongoing market storm efforts, we are constantly seeking for fresh and capable local talent that can help us drive the Airtel brand to the next level,” Bhargava said.

“Mr Wanjohi’s entry to the Airtel family given his wealth of experience locally and within the region is a big boost to our overall strategies,” he added.
